Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE), Thiruvananthapuram was established in 1995 under the government of Kerala. It is affiliated the University of Kerala with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approval. SCTCE is one of the few colleges in the state having NBA accreditation for all the major departments and ISO 9001: 2000 certification within a short span of time. SCTCE is also having the privilege of being one of the top six colleges in the state aided under the World Bank funded Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP).

The Institution is one among the top seven Engineering colleges in the state selected by Central Government for grants under World Bank funded TEQIP(First Phase) along with institutions like NIT and CET . The college is managed by a Board of Governors consisting of the Honorable Minister for Transport, Govt. of Kerala as the Chairman, Principal Secretary – Higher Education, Principal Secretary – Finance, Secretary for Transport Department (Vice-Chairman), Managing Director of KSRTC, F.A. & C.A.O, of KSRTC, two educationalists nominated by the Chairman, two nominees of AICTE, Director of Technical Education and the Principal of the college (Member Secretary).

Admission and Eligibility

B.Tech

A pass in the 12th standard examination of the Kerala State or examinations considered equivalent thereto with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects with a separate minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and overall 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

OR

Candidates who have passed Diploma in Engineering awarded by the State Board of Technical Education or Equivalent and must have a minimum of 60% marks. Relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed to SEBC candidates whose annual family income does not exceed 4.5Lakhs. For candidates belonging to SC/ST community, a pass in the qualifying examination will be sufficient.

Note:

Candidates belonging to socially and educationally backward classes as per G.O (P) 20^B6/Edn.dt.2- 5-66 and amendments thereof with a total annual family income up to 4.5Lakhs will have a relaxation of 5% marks.

Scheduled caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination.

In the case of candidates selected on the basis of the marks in the qualifying examinations 50% marks in Mathematics (University stipulation) and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together (A.I.C.T.E stipulation) is required. For diploma holders 60% marks in final diploma examination is required. The relaxation given above for candidates belonging S.E.B.C and S.T are applicable here also. This is applicable only in the case of nominees of Govt., of India and nominees to reciprocal quota seats of other states.

The candidates should have appeared for the qualifying examination before appearing for the Common Entrance Examination.

No rounding off of percentage marks to the nearest whole number is permitted. E.g. 50% means 75/150 or 225/450 and 45% means 68/150 or 203/450. The absolute marks, obtained by the candidate alone will be taken into account for determining eligibility.

Mode of admission

Out of the total seats available, 50% seats are under the state quota, 25% are under the management quota filled by Govt., 10% are under the management quota KSRTC and remaining 15% are under the NRI quota. For all the categories of seats the various fees are fixed by the Govt., and for the state quota seats the fees fixed is same as that in Govt. Self financing Engineering Colleges/ comparable to that in Govt. Engineering Colleges. To the state quota and to the management quota the students are admitted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE) based on the rank obtained in the entrance test and observing all reservation norms as applicable to the Govt. Engineering Colleges. In the case of NRI seats the students are admitted based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

M.Tech

Selection of admission will be based on the candidate’s percentile score in GATE. In the absence of candidates with GATE score, selection will be based on the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination. The selection of candidates will be done by a Selection Committee headed by the Principal, Head of the concerned Department and a senior faculty member of concerned Department of this Institution.
