Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (KCAET), located at Tavanur, Malappuram district of Kerala was established by Government of India in 1963. This institute was taken over by the Kerala Agricultural University in 1975 and renamed as Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT). IAT offered Diploma in Agrl. Science (DASC), Diploma in Agricultural and Rural Engineering (DARE) and Agrl. Mechanic Course (AMC).
The college is affiliated to the faculty of Agricultural Engineering of Kerala Agricultural University. The University established the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology in the year 1985 by upgrading the IAT and renamed it as “Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering & Technology”.
KCAET was built up on the foundations of the Rural Institute, Tavanur. It is beside the National Highway no. 17, on the Kuttippuram, Ponnani sector. Tavanur is about eight kilometers from Kuttippuram Railway station on the Shornur Mangalore sector of Southern Railway.
Now the College is offering Degree, Post graduate and Ph.D courses in Agricultural Engineering and Degree course in Food Engineering. It is the only college in Kerala offering Agricultural Engineering course. Land & Water Resources and Conservation Engineering, Irrigation & Drainage Engineering, Farm Power, Machinery & Energy, Post Harvest Technology& Agricultural Processing, and Supportive and Allied courses are the departments. 24 teaching staff are presently working in these departments. The college is having infrastructural facilities like Laboratories, workshop, hostels, guest house and trainees hostel etc. The Institute is giving training to farmers, agricultural officers, students, youth and entrepreneurs, in the subjects like farm mechanization, precision farming, agricultural processing etc. The College is also offering farm advisory services.
