T.D. Medical College Alappuzha was established in 1963 under the patronage of the T.D. Temple at Anantha NarayanaPuram of Alappuzha. The Kerala government had agreed to upgrade the district headquarters hospital at Alappuzha and handed it over to the Medical College management, to be used as teaching hospital for the medical students and Government. T.D. Medical College is a rapidly growing Medical College in the state as a centre of excellence in every field of modern medicine. This is the lone Medical College in the state which would have the Medical College and College Hospital on the side of national highway.

The construction of the building started with the foundation stone laying ceremony by Sri. R Sankar, Chief Minister of Kerala on March 06, 1963 and the classes started on August 1963.
