Mahatma Gandhi College, the institution dedicated to the memory of the Father of the Nation was established in the year 1948 by the legendary social reformer Bharatha Kesari Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan. It is one of the largest and oldest institutions of higher education in the capital city of the state of Kerala run by the largest educational agency of Kerala, the Nair Service Society.It has been accredited by NAAC at ‘A’ level in the first Phase. In the second phase of accreditation it retained the “A” level with a CGPA of 3.16. University Grants commission bestowed the college with the status of CPE (College with Potential for Excellence).
It functions with the objective of providing value added quality education to all with special emphasis on the economically poor sections of the society upholding the motto “Sa Vidya Ya Vimukthaye”. It has 13 UG, 10 PG and 7 research programmes in the faculties of basic science, humanities and social sciences.
