Govt. Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram

Government Medical College, Thiruvanathapuram was established in 1951, the Trivandrum Medical College (TMC) is considered to be one of the most notable medical institutions in the state of Kerala. The college is located in the district of Thiruvananthapuram and is controlled by the State Government of Kerala. The first Prime Minister of India, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru inaugurated the college. Being recognized as the oldest and most prestigious medical institution in Kerala, the college is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences.

In official records, it was named simply Medical College (of Thiruvananthapuram) since it was the only medical institute in the state at the time of its inception. It is being upgraded to the status of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The Medical College campus houses several hospitals and institutions, other than the Medical College Hospital (MCH), including the College of Nursing, College of Pharmaceutical sciences, Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram Dental College, Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Priyadarshini Institute of Paramedical Sciences and Sree Avittom Thirunal Hospital for Women and Children (SAT Hospital). Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) is also a part of medical college and is being upgraded to the status of national level independent institute. School of Optometry is also located inside RIO campus.
