Government College for Women, Tiruvananthapuram

The Govt. College for Women, one of the leading educational institution was established in 1920 with a clear mission to provide women with a modern, liberal education and thus to transform society and the nation. It was started as the Sircar Girl’s School, in 1864 by the Royal family of Travancore.
The college is committed to the ideas of liberal education and recognizes the fact that times have been changed that it must adapt and evolve to keep up with the rapidly changing world. In Academic and Co-curricular activities, the College has been a model institution. It has Seventeen PG departments offering almost all Arts and Science Master Degree courses. In 2012, two new courses has been added, PG in Commerce and UG in Statistics. Apart from vibrant and meaningful classroom teaching, the College provides several support programmes all of which make the educational experience of our students rich and indelible. As part of the Semesterization of UG courses, the College constituted various Clubs to promote the extracurricular activities the students. Our students show Academic brilliance in University examinations and in 2012, we have 21 Ranks in Post Graduate courses.
