Al- Ameen College Edathala was established in 1981 by Al-Ameen Educational Trust, Kochi. It had first been affiliated to the University of Kerala. When Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam was established in 1983, the college came under the jurisdiction of this university.
The Year 1991 was a landmark in the history of the College. It was during this year that College was elevated to the status of a first grade College with the introduction of B.Com.Degree course. Now this institution has acquired the status of a celebrated first grade college with post-graduate courses and many graduate courses catering to the needs of students to achieve vocational proficiency. B.sc Biotechnology and B.sc MLT courses started on 2003 unaided self- financing basis.
Al-Ameen College Edathala is one of the many superlative institutions that can claim membership in the Al-Ameen movement founded by Dr. Mumthaz Ahammed Khan, Bangalore. The main aim is to uplift the educational and social status of minority and rural community through learning. The college goal is to cultivate a spirit of community service and to inculcate civic sense and social responsibility, to incorporate novel and pioneering branches of study and to lead the institution into a centre for excellence and envisions create an educated and enlightened society, to place a strong thrust on secularism, culture, tradition and character formation for the betterment of society.
